Imaginary Cityscape

Workshops & Animated Film

Step into the enchanting world of "Imaginary Cityscape" - a whimsical post-pandemic universe where real and fictional creatures reclaim the city of Edinburgh, as seen in the media during the lockdown in 2020.

This 4-minute animated allegorical fable was co-created with the brilliant minds of Abbeyhill Primary School seventh-graders and their amazing teacher Mr Ieuan Scott–Woodhouse, during a series of workshops I had the pleasure of running as an artist-in-residence in 2021. With the help of Robert Motyka from Wee Dog Media, the storyboard and the creatures of our imagination were brought to life in the most delightful and joyous way.

We drew inspiration from the topography of Abbeyhill’s most iconic landmarks, including the Abbeyhill Primary School building, picturesque Abbeyhill Colony houses and gardens, and bustling streets and parks, all culminating in the towering majesty of Arthur's Seat.

With the words of Albert Einstein ringing in our ears, Logic will get you from A to Z. Imagination will get you everywhere, we unleashed our creativity and envisioned Abbeyhill through the lens of our imagination.  Together, we crafted an awe-inspiring alternate reality, a place of pure magic, quirkiness and unbridled joy.
